General Description

Quick start is designed as an introduction for educators who are new to Rationale and argument mapping. It is ideal for first time users and schools introducing argument mapping and Rationale software into their curriculum.


Quick start provides teachers with the basics of Rationale and the resources to get them started in the classroom.

Where, When, Who?

This workshop is two hours in duration, though may be extended or shortened as required. It is provided at your school, with your IT facilities and is unlimited for the number of attendees (one instructor is provided).


$495* (+ GST 10%).
*Schools outside Melbourne may be required to pay travel expenses.


The standard workshop comprises 4 units which can be shaped to your particular requirements. Each unit is 30 minutes in duration and includes:
1. Basics: An introduction to critical thinking and argument mapping. Includes basic navigation of Rationale and its features.
2. Classroom Integration: A unit to provide teachers with ready at hand resources, including activities, examples, templates, assessment ideas and a unit plan.
3. Grouping: An introduction to grouping maps, including key concepts and activities to structure and organise objects and ideas.
4. Reasoning: An introduction to creating argument maps, evaluating claims and understanding key concepts.
5. Analysis: An introduction to analysis maps which reveal how to locate and represent assumptions and provide extended evaluation of claims.
6. Essay Planner: A hands on unit for scaffolding essay writing using the essay planning tool.
7. Extended navigation: A unit to provide comprehensive navigation and tips for using Rationale.
